Welcome to 2014 Select Trail
10 / 11 and 17 / 18 May
The Select Trail takes place in venues in and around Stroud Valleys in Gloucestershire
I am really pleased to have this opportunity to recommend the Select Trail for 2014. Stroud and the surrounding area are rich in craft talent and the Select Trail provides an opportunity to explore that richness in the glorious surroundings of the town, its villages and countryside.
We are really fortunate to have Stroud International Textiles working hard for the craft community in Gloucestershire and providing visitors with such a fantastic experience. The Select Trail is just one way in which they support the wealth of professional designer-makers in the Stroud Valley.
On the trail you’ll be able to see a wide range of crafts and appreciate different approaches to design. There is something enchanting and inspiring about watching an experienced and talented maker at work – the combination of skill, rhythmic work, and design talent. That first-hand experience of meeting the maker and the workshop atmosphere adds immeasurably to the craft object. The Select Trail offers the opportunity to do just that.
Do try and visit as many workshops as possible. Make the most of this excellent opportunity of meeting the makers. You will be impressed and entertained and, above all, bowled over by the quality and variety of work.

The Select Trail has grown again this year with new studios and artists joining the Trail. Alongside textile artists you will enjoy work from makers who design and create fabulous ceramics, pottery, willow baskets and freeform decorative woven structures; indigo dyed cloth; beautiful jewellery and colourful mosaics. All the makers live and work in the Stroud Five Valleys. Visit hidden studios in old Mills, garden sheds or in private houses and also inspiring artist-led exhibitions.
The photographs this year have been taken by professional photographer, Ben Wright (www.benwrightphotography.co.uk) The brochure is a special unique publication with original photographs of the artists and their work. We hope you will keep the brochure for reference throughout the year and if you want something original and lovingly hand made contact the artists to commission new work.
For a free high quality brochure send stamps to the value of £2.50 with your name and address to the SIT office. Details on the booking page.
